“Towering” seven stories above Fayetteville Street this building was North Carolina’s first skyscraper, built in 1907. Originally built as the Masonic Temple, it is now home to a number of professional offices as well as the NCSU College of Design’s Fish Market Art Gallery. The first floor is occupied by the Raleigh Urban Design Center. This historic landmark, designed by Charles McMillan, is the state’s oldest surviving steel-reinforced concrete building. Back to Top 2. Raleigh Times Building This beautifully restored building exhibits some of the most intricate masonry work in Raleigh. Originally home to the Evening Times, the forerunner to the Raleigh Times newspaper, the building was purchased and restored by Empire Properties in 2002. A top-notch example of mixed-use architecture, residential space is located above the Raleigh Times Bar, a hip gathering place in the Downtown scene. Back to Top 3. York Simpson Underwood York Simpson Underwood’s new Downtown office showcases their property offerings, including the RBC Plaza Condominiums, which are scheduled for completion in 2008. The 139 units in the tallest building in Raleigh will offer views beginning at 265 feet above ground. A fitness center, theatre room, club room and 23rd floor pool will provide convenience and recreation. Upgraded finishes in kitchens and bathrooms complete the sophistication. Back to Top 4. Capital Apartments The five-story Capital Apartments was Raleigh's first true apartment building. Designed in the Beaux-Arts style in 1917, this Raleigh Historic landmark consists of 35 one- and two-bedroom rental units with spacious floor plans featuring balconies, hardwood floors, and 10' 4" ceilings. The courtyard at the south and main façade was recently renovated. Back to Top 5. Single Family Home A major rehabilitation of this historic house was undertaken in 2007. Built in 1925 as a rooming house, it later became a site of illegal and ill-reputed activity. The 10 ft ceilings and original four square plan allow natural ventilation and light. The floor plan was reconfigured to create an open kitchen/living area downstairs and a master suite upstairs. Please remove shoes upon entering this home. Back to Top 6. Carlton Place Apartments 7. Single Family Home 8. Founders Row These beautiful townhouse-style condominiums are unique in downtown Raleigh for their Syrian arches, skylights, and 12-foot elliptical windows. This pioneering downtown residential development also features brick courtyards and fountains. Located adjacent to City Market, Founder’s Row is an example of downtown living at its finest. Back to Top 9. Person Pointe Designed as multi-family housing, Person Pointe is located at the corner of Cabarrus and Person Streets, just south of the city center. It features oak and cherry cabinets, hardwood flooring, ceramic tile, intricate millwork, gated parking and a buzz-in home security system. Person Pointe received a Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance. Back to Top 10. Park Devereux The Park Devereux building introduced the warehouse-style condominium to downtown Raleigh’s warehouse district. The all-brick construction houses 46 condominiums including multilevel lofts and single level flats. Interior ceiling heights range from 10’ to 20’ and units overlook one of the most beautifully landscaped parks in all of downtown. Back to Top 11. The Dawson The Dawson is a recent addition to downtown Raleigh's burgeoning warehouse district, featuring 66 residential units that range from 800 to 3,000 square feet in one-, two-, three-, or four-bedroom configurations. Condominium interiors feature 10' ceilings. The Dawson on Morgan features all of the amenities of luxury living in downtown and features a great central location for taking in all of Raleigh's downtown spots. Center This new 15 story building contains office and retail space on the first 6 floors, and 37 residential homes from the 7th to the top. A business center and lounge are located on the 7th floor. All floors have great views through floor-to-ceiling glass, from the highest point in Downtown Raleigh. All homes have top-of-the-line finishes and minimum 10’ ceilings. West at North is under construction and promises to be one of Raleigh’s exciting new places to live. The 17 story tower will feature a rooftop pool, club room and fitness center overlooking the city. Residences will begin on the 5th floor and offer fantastic views, while the ground floor will have restaurants and retail. Interior finishes include hardwood floors, frameless shower doors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, 10’ ceilings, and recessed overhead lighting. Back to Top 15. 222 Glenwood Avenue Condominiums This project, being developed by Tramell Crow, is located at the site of the former Warren Distributing Company, just north of the 518 restaurant on Glenwood Avenue. The development will have 22,000 square feet of retail in the form of shops or restaurants. The building will include 117 residential units and a 360-space parking deck. Construction has already begun on the seven-story mid-rise. A model unit will be on view. Back to Top 16. 630 North Street Condominiums This mixed use property will be complete in late 2008. The project will consist of 3 floors of commercial tenants and 7 floors of residential above. Floor plans include one and two bedrooms, both with 9’ ceilings. Amenities include assigned parking, oversized balconies with views of the Glenwood South area, an exercise area, a garden plaza with water features, and an outdoor grilling area. The 712 Tucker Condominiums are slated for construction in 2008 on the site of the former Raleigh Office Supply Building, just west of Glenwood Ave. The building will offer 179 units, with a variety of floorplans. Amenities will include a pool and two story fitness room, a community room, a business center, and two courtyards. Interior finishes include 9-11 foot ceilings, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, tile, carpet, and bamboo flooring. Back to Top 18. 510 Glenwood Condominiums
510 Glenwood was one of the first condominium buildings on Glenwood Ave. and is in a perfect location for an urban lifestyle. The beautiful mixed use structure sits atop three of Raleigh’s liveliest restaurants on Glenwood Avenue South. Built in 2000, units include pro-grade kitchens, gas fireplaces, and private deck parking. Back to Top 19. The Paramount Condominiums The form of this building reflects its topography, sloping down a hill in harmony with its site. Inside its ten stories, it offers 84 condominium units in a quiet location on the north end of Glenwood Avenue South. There is a fifth floor reflecting pool, and a private fitness center. The Cotton Mill Originally constructed in the late 1800's and used for 100 years as the loading portal for the rail freight lines on the building's east side, the Cotton Mill was renovated and modernized in 1996. The building houses 50 luxury condominiums ranging from 800 to 2500 square feet. The building is a Raleigh Historic Landmark and features exposed beams, hardwood floors, 10' windows and, in some units, 19' ceilings. The building is accessed from Capital Boulevard. Parking is out front. Back to Top 21. Capitol Park This award-winning Hope VI Redevelopment is a nationally-recognized success story for subsidized housing. It represents a new vision for affordable housing and community design that is unique in Raleigh. Town homes, villas, single- family homes, and senior housing are deftly woven together within the urban fabric. The Village at Pilot Mill Begun in 2003, the Village at Pilot Mill revives a by-gone era of compact towns and villages inspired by the New Urbanist movement. The original Pilot Mill buildings remain adjacent to the community. The single family homes are built close to the sidewalk and alleyways provide access to detached garages. The houses feature nine foot ceilings, crown moldings, and hardwood floors, combined with modern custom cherry cabinets and granite countertops. Back to Top 23. Mordecai Manor Condominiums
Built in 1908, Mordecai Manor has been converted into six luxury 2 bedroom condominiums that retain their historic layouts. Future Developments Blount Street Redevelopment This preservation-based project will integrate the neighborhood’s rich architectural and social histories with the exciting future of Downtown’s renaissance. The four phased plan involves the preservation of 26 historic homes blended among compatible new development. 400 residential units will take the form of live/work space, carriage homes, row homes, flats and detached houses. The Lafayette The Lafayette is Empire Properties' proposal for site four in downtown Raleigh. It will be a signature building for downtown, helping to define the city's southern skyline. It will be filled with special amenities that currently don't exist in Raleigh: a signature restaurant with a nationally recognized chef, a boutique hotel, bar, luxury condominiums overlooking Memorial Auditorium, open areas for outside dining and a rooftop bar and swimming pool.
